A friend of mine has Office for XP 2002 as I do and when I create a new
event in Calendar I can go to the Actions menu and choose 'Forward as
iCalendar' for this event. He does not have this option under his Actions
menu. Both of us have the same version of Outlook. Why do I have this option
and he doesn't? Thanks.

He probably is using an Exchange mailbox. In that case, the server controls
the format of the outgoing meeting request, not the client.

Actually, he is a retired person using outlook to create and upload
appointments to his Ipod which is compatible with the iCalendar format.
Can't tell you exactly why he wants to do it like this, but as a friend and
customer, I am trying to help him to do what he wants. He uses outlook only
for the functions that I mentioned and uses Outlook Express for email using
a broadband connection. I was told to go to 'Tools\Options\ and in the
Calendar Options - Advanced Options section, make sure that the box is
checked that's next to the 'When sending meeting requests over the
internet..etc. Well, he told me that both options under 'Advanced Options'
are 'faded out' and that he cannot 'check' either one. Help...thanks for
your reply.

In that case, it might be because he has no email accounts at all. "Send as
iCal" requires an email account. He can, of course, save any appointment as
an iCal .ics file without the need for an email account.

Hey, that's it. He had no email account configured for Outlook. I didn't
know that. If I would have known that, I wouldn't have been here asking.
