Icon in taskbar after update

After installing SP2 I now have an icon for my outlook on the taskbar. I am
wondering if there is a way to disable that. Everytime an e-mail comes in the
system wakes me up at night. Other than shutting the computer down how can I
remove it so that it does not notify me there is new mail? I am running XP
pro and have office 2003 installed and am using the office outlook as default
e-mail. I only installed SP2 as my iPod updated and needed the newest version
of iTunes which then required SP2.

Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance

Installed SP2 of which product?
How does an icon in the taskbar wake you up?
Anyway, you can always close Outlook or turn off your sound as well.

I installed windows xp sp2 and the icon now shows permanently in the task
bar. Everytime a new e-mail comes in it beeps. I had tried to disable the
sound but for incoming mail it still beeps.

You mean in the Notification Area? That Outlook icon has there (when Outlook
is running) even before Windows XP Service Pack 2.
To disable the sound;
Tools-> Options-> Email Options-> Advanced Email Options
