when I add to my favorites the website icon is shown, but when I reconnect
the next day the icon has changed to the "e" as in internet explorer, any
ideas why it changes

This has nothing to do with Office but....
Assuming IE, you probably have your cache (TIF) emptied automatically.

Favicons are only temporary until cleared from your cache.
To make them permanent:
