Identifying keystrokes on a drop down list

I have a drop down list on which i need to do a filtering based on the first
3 keystrokes entered by a user.
The expectation is to reduce the size and limit the number of items
displayed to display on the matching items with the keystorkes entered by the
user.
Is this possible to do with infopath 2003 and Javascript?
