IE Explorer version 5.5 or later is required

After going to Microsoft.com and then checking to see if any Office Updates
were required I received the following message: INTERNET EXPLORER VERSION
5.5 OR LATER IS REQUIRED. I have version
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519. Can anyone tell me how to resolve
this issue>
