While using Publisher 2000's help I click on a help topic and this error
window pops up:

---------start error message ------------
Internet Explorer Script error
An error has occurred in the script on this page
line: 1
char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support tjis propery or method
code: 0
URL:
mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\Program%20Office\Office\1033\pub6.chm::/pib9html/pbmnuPRNTT
RB001.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
YES NO
--------- end error message ------------

If I click on YES, the help page still does not show. Anyone have any ideas
what's wrong with IE or Publisher?

I am using IE 6 sp1. I do not encounter this problem with IE at any websites
or applications.

Thanks..........Paul

In IE, tools, Internet Options, Advanced, tick "Disable script debugging", un-tick
"Display a notification about every script error".

This problem is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 822989
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822989). Unless you've installed
Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000, the solution should be to apply
Critical Update 811630, which is available from:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811630

I'm starting to see reports that installing Windows 2000 SP4 *causes*
this problem. If you're a Windows 2000 user and you have installed
SP4, the solution is to first run this command from a command prompt:

regsvr32 /u <drive>:/winnt/system32/hhctrl.ocx

and then run this command:

regsvr32 <drive>:/winnt/system32/hhctrl.ocx

The first command unregisters the HTML Help ActiveX control, which is
what provides the navigation features in the help files; the second
command re-registers the control. This should fix the broken registry
entries that are responsible for the problem.

Hi Pete,

I am on Windows XP Pro. You had mentioned that the fix was for w2k.

Should I still try Critcal Update 811630 even though I am on windows XP pro?

Thanks......Paul

Hi Pete,

I did a WindowsUpdate scan. It did not list 811630 as a needed update. It
did list an October cumulative Patch for IE 6, I did that one. Still no help
:-(

Do you have any other ideas what could be the problem.

Thanks.........Paul

Do you know which version of hhctrl.ocx you have on your system?
You'll find this file in the directory \Windows\System32, and you can
determine its version number by right-clicking it in Windows Explorer
and then selecting Properties from the context menu. If you have a
version earlier than 5.2.3735.0 then you should install the 811630
update.

Here is a direct link to the update:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...26-ae89-4cb3-a819-e6da160f2e66&DisplayLang=en

If this doesn't fix the problem then you could try running MJ's Help
Diagnostics, available from:

http://helpware.net/downloads/index.htm#MJs

This will check that all the components required to view HTML Help
files are properly installed and registered on your system.

Pete,

You da man!

My version of hhctrl was older than 5.2.3735.
I installed 811630 and my problem is fixed.
I wonder why windowsupdate did not list 811630. Maybe it was listed but not
as a criticle update. Oh well.

Thanks.......Paul
