IF formula valid for given day of month

I have a column with series listing all days in each month inclusive
through a period of several years.

Another column represents regular payments made on the same date of
each month - for the sake of example, let's say 16th.

It would be tedious to locate the 16th cell in each month and place
the figure manually - plus I'd like to experiment with changing the
payment day.

Hence, I would like to use IF formula so that when day = 16, then
payment can be allocated (by referencing another cell with payment
value).

Trouble is, in any given format the date has several variables, not
just day, and I haven't found a work around.

Any ideas?

Use Excel. This is the kind of thing it is made for :)

Seriously! Word is not your weapon for this kind of thing. Don't spend any
longer wrestling with it.

Cheers
