Select cell.
Then Format/Cells/Number/Custom dddd, mmm d, yyyy

Hi Swanav,
Say your date is in A1 then in B1 put =WEEKDAY(A1)
This will return a number from 1 to 7, 1 being Sunday
and 7 being Saturday.
If you want it to show the actual day then format B1 as
custom dddd
There are a few other options that you will find in the help file.

=TEXT(A1,"ddd") = Fri
=TEXT(A1,"dddd") = Friday

Simply format the cell ddd d/m/yy and the day of the week will be shown
