Given that many are spreading malware disguised as anti-virus or
anti-malware software, I'd advise against this. If you want to get AV
software from AVG, go directly to AVG's own site -- that way, I think you
can be reasonably certain of getting a copy that isn't infected with the
very things you want to prevent.
There are other free AV packages, too, so AVG is not your only choice. I
don't personally recommend any particular brand. Windows XP and later
include Microsoft anti-virus, so there's no cost to turn that on, either.
