Why dose the statment =IF(A1=A2,4000)
or =IF(A1=A2 4000)
or even the statments in the "Help" not work
Ofice XP Pro.

What do you mean by 'not work'? Now, the second example will not work
because you are missing a comma after 'A2'.

For the first example, are you encountering an error? Do you see
"FALSE"? If the latter is what you are referring to then an IF
function has three arguments:

=IF(<condition>,<truepart>,<falsepart>)

You are missing the false arguments. So you'd need something like:
=IF(A1=A2,4000,0)

the statment works on a ofice 2000 pc but not on my pc 2002... getting
updates still the same... using the function butten gives me spacess and help
gives it to me with commers... "the formula you typed contains an error".
going to try 2003...

The second is a syntax error. The first could also be a syntax error if
the Windows list separator character isn't comma. The first place for
the OP (Boyd) to look is in Regional Settings in Windows Control Panel.
The list separator will be in the same dialog tab as the default
currency format, but the exact location differs between Windows
versions. Easiest to use Windows online help to find out where the list
separator character setting may be found. Make sure it's a comma.
