IFilters? Do you mean the plugins for Windows Desktop Search?
If yes, then I think WDS3 that became recently available supports the
new file formats already by default.

What I want to do is to index documents in a couple of applications, one of
which is Sharepoint 2003 which uses the SQL indexing service and another is
an in house app which uses Windows 2003 indexing service.

Both of these already support the old Office documents out of the box, but
we added support for things like .PDF files by installing ifilters, so to
support the new Office document formats we'll need to install ifilters for
those too.

I'd rather not install Windows Desktop Search on my SQL servers as I'm not
sure it would add the functionality to SQL and I don't think it's
appropriate for a SQL server in any case

Are you saying you want to open documents created in Office 2007 in an
earlier version? If that's the case then download the Compatibility

BerkHolz, Steven

I assume this should come as a Windows Server (Indexer) patch, since the old office format ifilters came with Windows Server.

Yes, it certainly could come as a patch for W2003 indexing service and SQL
search service, but it could equally be made available as a separate ifilter
that adds the functionality for just the new Office 2007 document formats.

I'll be happy with any solution that lets them index teh new formats.
