IIS messed up!

I have somehow messed up the server extensions on Windows XP Pro that I had
installed. I cannot publish to localhost. I must have messed it up while
playing with the dwt somehow.

Is there anything I could try before reinstalling Windows XP pro and IIS?

Thank goodness I just got DVD burner!

The DWT would have no impact on the OS, IIS or the extensions. The DWTs are not support under the FP
extensions.

Can you open http://localhost directly via FP's File Menu | Open Web / Site?

I get message:
Documents in this folder are not avialable. The folder may have been moved
or deleted or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server.

I did go under my network places and delete non-existent websites from
localhost. Don't know if this caused problem.

I did install MS Office updates yestersday.

Deleting folders from within Network Places, also should have no effect, however deleting folders,
etc. under Inetpub/ will have an impact.

Can you access http://localhost via IE browser?

Your Web service is now running.
You do not currently have a default Web page established for your
users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine
are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists
the following files as possible default Web pages:
default.htm,default.asp,index.htm,iisstart.asp. Currently, only iisstart.asp
exists.

To add documents to your default Web site, save files in
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\.

1. You should never access c:\inetpub\wwwroot directly, always via http://localhost via FP.

2. In IE try opening http://localhost/webname

I went back to FP and could open http://localhost. I had gone back to the
Add Windows Components and tried to add the IIS out of desperation. I also
did restore of deleted folders from Recycle Bin.

I can open http://localhost/webname now.

Don't know what caused initial problem. Wonder if it had anything to do with
Office Updates?

It happened again. Now I tried to unintall and reinstall IIS and think I am
in a mess. Everything seemed fine last night!

Don't know what caused it although I had that blinking shield down at bottom
saying updates were ready to be installed.
