I'm unable to save new documents

Strange thing...I connect to a LAN at work (or sometimes just sign in as
"admin" and don't connect to the LAN at all). After being away from the
office for several days and relying on wireless Internet, I have the
following problem with both Word and Excel documents....
--When I try to save a new document, I can't give it a file name, save it to
a folder...nothing. The hourglass appears, I wait patiently, and it doesn't
allow me to type anything in the Save As... window.
....The info re the wireless connection may be wholly irrelevant, but no
other changes occurred with the computer except that one. All Office, IE,
Windows, virus updates have been taken care of already.
Any advice?

Many have the problem, as you may see in this group.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.1 to reflect the issues in KB918165 and now points
to the KB918165.

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

I am experiencing similar problems but uninstalling the offending download
doesn't fix the problem. I have noticed in the task manager that when running
Word the process in the task manager is Winword.exe but when trying to "save
as" an additional process runs, this is Explorer.exe. When this happens the
message "not responding" appears for about a minute. After this the
explorer.exe process goes and I can then save. Very frustrating.
Any ideas?

There was a second patch released that corrected the issues caused by the
first. Download the new one.
