Image protection

Doug

Can anyone advise how I might protect images on my web
site from being copied? I believe that there is a
technique to prevent image grabbing which is similar to
that used to prevent text being copied but I have not
been able to find a reference to it.

There really is no way to protect anything that appears in the browser,
since it has already been downloaded the visitor's machine, so if they want,
they got it. This issue come up at least once a week.

If they can't snag graphics off your web page, they can easily get them by
opening up Explorer, Temporary Internet Files and scrolling to the bottom.
All the graphics are listed. Just right-click, then "Open in New Window."

This one is so old it's got long whiskers..! If they can view your page
they already have the image. If you don't want them to have it, don't put
it on the web. It really is that simple.

Basically, if you can "see it" or "hear it" you can steal it. Don't
forget one can also use a screen capture utility to copy the browser
window with your picture(s) into the clipboard... paste the image in a
photo editing program, crop, and have your image. This method defeats
all script-based solutions.
