images as hyperlinks

S

Stan Hazell,

Can anybody out there help me with a problem I have using images in FP as
hyperlinks? Every time I use an image as a link (the Adobe getacro image
for instance, but others too) the image and the code, just disappears once
it gets in the browser or is published. Is this a glitch in Windows XP Pro
which I have installed or maybe in my version of FP2002? Anyone who can
solve this one for me will be my friend for life.

Here`s hoping.

If you post the URL I'm sure someone would be able to help you.

I use the getacro image and it works just fine for me. (And I also have XP
Pro and FP2002.)

And I like lifetime friends. Are you single? I have a friend who's
looking...............

Stan Hazell,

Thanks for your response.

Here`s a further treatise on my disappearing image problems.

The code as created:

<a target="_blank"
href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html">
<img border="0" src="getacro.gif" width="88" height="31"></a>

What happens when it reaches the browser:

<a target="_blank"
href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html">
</a>

I have, as a test, put up the getacro image on the contact page of my own
site: www.neworldmedia.co.uk
If you care to look you will find it does not appear (It`s in the header
table top left). And if you check the source code you will find it as
above.

In other words, hey presto, the image has gone awol. I am bewitched and
bewildered. Surely there must be a patch somewhere that will fix it?

All suggestions welcome.

PS: I fear neither the wife, the 3 kids or the dog would consider me single!

Stan,

Where exactly is this link suppose to be in your site below, I did a search
of view source on the home page, Contact Us and Content page for adobe and
can not find any references.

I use the link below on a few sites and never had any problems:

<a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html"
target="_blank"><img border="0" src="../images/getacro.gif"></a>

Stan Hazell,

Thanks to Thomas A. Rowe

I`m not surprised he`s puzzled and can`t find the getacro image. Despite
being published there`s no sign of it! That`s my problem. I`ve tried your
code Thomas and I`m afraid that doesn` t work either. There has to be some
sort of glitch in my system which is causing this mystery. The image code
and the <a href >link are all there in the edit mode. In the browser the
image code disappears but the <a href >link is still there. But when
published it ALL goes awol. So there`s nothing to see either on the page or
the code. For the record it is supposed to be on the Contacts page of
www.neworldmedia.co.uk but it definitely aint there. If it was you`d find it
about halfway between Auto 6 and Auto 2.

I don`t think I`m going round the twist but it could happen. I might feel
better if I knew someone else had gone through the ringer on this one.

Stan Hazell,

Thanks to Thomas A. Rowe

I`m not surprised you are puzzled. I`m totally mystified. Despite the
getacro image and link being OK in edit mode once it gets to the browser the
image disappears and then, when it`s published, both the code for the image
and the <a href> link take a walk. So there`s nothing to see. For the
record it should be on the Contacts page of www.neworldmedia.co.uk about
midway between Auto 6 and Auto 2. I tried your code, Thomas, but I fear
that doesn`t work either. It surely has to be some sort of bug or glitch
in my system. Maybe Windows XP of which I run the Pro version. (I`m on FP
2002)

I don`t think I`m going round the twist but there`s always that chance. In
the meantime I shall have to make do with boring text based links (Sorry
Adobe. Perhaps you have an answer? But I have to admit that it`s not just
getacro images that are a problem. No image works)

I`ll keep my finger crossed someone out there has a brainwave. Maybe I
would feel better if I knew someone else had been going through the ringer
on this one.

The link is there Now and it works.

If this was a change to an existing page, then maybe your host is using a
Caching server, that just now updated.

Stan Hazell,

I`m interested to hear the image appeared for you Thomas. The image doesn`t
seem to be there now for me. Although the <a href> code is. This business
of a tantalising fleeting glimpse and then goodbye has happened before with
servers from other ISPs which leads me to believe it is not a server
problem whoever the ISP might be. But is there a clue in the fact that the
image does come and go? (Mostly go as far as I can see).

Sorry this is such a saga. I promise I`m not making it up. But thanks for
your interest and support.

Stan Hazell,

Thanks for the feedback. I have now established, via the FP support people,
that the problem seems to be in my system. They could see the image too
although I couldn`t! I have done all the obvious things like deleting
temporary internet files but this has not solved the problem. It`s a relief
to know, at least, that it IS there. You won`t find it now on
www.neworldmedia.co.uk. as I have taken it down. It was only there as a
test. Now I will load it on the site where I really wanted to put it and
get someone to tell me whether it`s there too.

It is suggested, in the absence of any other solutions to the problem, that
I reinstall Explorer. I might try that.

Thanks again for the input. It`s nice to know you are all out there.
