images disappear when converted from in-line to floaters

Hello,

I'm using Word 2000 on Windows XP Home Edition. When I
insert a jpg or gif, it is fine as long as I leave it
formatted as "in-line" with the text. If I change it to
a "floating image" -- in front of text or behind or
whatever -- then I lose it, it becomes just a white box.
This doesn't happen with bmps or tifs. What gives? I
never used to have this problem when I used Word 2000 on
Windows 98. . . could that really be the issue?

Thanks, Mark

Hi, Mark. In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box. If you are working with floating objects, you should be working in Print Layout view, not Normal view.
