IMAP/Cache Headers?

Using Outlook XP. IMAP Account incoming Outgoing SMTP.

When switching to a folder that has thousands of messages
in it. (User is an Executive) Outlook stops responding
for extremely long periods of time, with a message
of "fetching new headers", and later the message may
change to "updating cached headers" or something like
that. This can take several minutes, often
the user gives up and kills Outlook, then avoids the
folder until they have time to wait for it to finish.

Any suggestions?

What's the question? All you did was make a series of statements.

Question is...Does anyone have any suggestions on what
fetching new headers and updating cached headers refer to
exactly and how can I turn off so that the user does not
have to wait to switch from IMap folders. I did read that
there was a fix in Outlook 2000 but nothing for XP.

So any suggestions regarding this whole scenario would be
helpful.

Thanks and sorry about not being specific.

"Fetching new headers" means that Outlook is querying the IMAP server for
the headers of the new messages on the server. "Updating cached headers"
means that Outlook is replacing the headers stored in the PST it uses to
keep track of the IMAP server state with the headers it got from the IMAP
server. If you were able to turn this off, you wouldn't be able to know
what's on the IMAP server at all.
