IMAP Inbox indicator and Gmail question

I'm not doing anything. I don't untand what the first step to first base is.
The G mail interface is convoluted to say the least.
what is mug?

Mac User Group. In Portland it's called PMUG for Portland Mac User Group.
Most large cities have one.

It's in the gMail settings.
Settings > Accounts and Import > Send e-mail as.
