IMAP Inboxes not "refreshing" consistently

T

I recently switched from Apple Mail to Entourage 2004. I have several IMAP
accounts, and a few POP accounts. I liked the way Apple Mail shows all of
your account Inboxes in one Inbox location, so I created a custom Mail View
to try and accomplish the same thing in Entourage.

The problem I'm having is that unless I periodically 'click' on the actual
Inboxes of the IMAP accounts, new messages only appear intermittently. I've
toyed with the IMAP settings "Live Sync - stay connected", but it doesn't
appear the Inboxes are getting refreshed without manual intervention. I've
tested this by intentionally not clicking an Inbox, and it come sometimes
take an hour or two for new mail to show up, even though "Received" time is
correct.

Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Is this an IMAP 'bug' in
Entourage? I've never had this problem with Apple Mail using the same IMAP
accounts as I am now.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Note that you may have to press Command (Apple)-L to have Custom Views
refresh their contents.

Another option associated with automatic download of messages, in the same
account settings window, is the option to "Check for unread messages in
subscribed folders". Try checking that and seeing what happens.

If that doesn't work, you might want to set up a schedule to automatically
download new mail from your IMAP account. Go to Tools > Schedules, and open
the "Send & Receive All" schedule. Set the "When" to "Repeating Schedule
every 1 minute". Then, make sure that there is an action to "Receive Mail"
<your IMAP acccount>. Click the "account options button, and make sure that
it is set to synchronize with your Inbox. Then click OK to save your
changes.
