IMAP probs with Entourage

P

Paul Berkowitz

Ever since using IMAP about a month ago I have had problems with Entourage
crashing, getting all befuddled and displaying wrong folder contents.

Is this a common problem for IMAP users?

No. I have two different IMAP accounts, including mac.com, which work just
fine. There must be a specific problem you have (it's not the University of
Washington server, is it? Known defects there.)

Some IMAP servers, like mac.com, take top-level folders. Most others, like
my own university's server, require all other folders to be subfolders of
the INBOX. Usually they provide at least one other folder, such as Sent
Messages, occupying the correct position by default. So try INBOX subfolders
and see if that works better. If there are already "built-in" folders or
subfolders that you want to access, you need to select the server icon in
the Folder list and select and Subscribe to the folders which are dimmed
that you see in the main window on the right.

In certain cases (not many), marking messages for deletion rather than using
a Deleted Items folder (Advanced page in account set-up) may work better.
