IMAP

I have started to use MS Outlook 2003 on our network.
Unfortunately, I was saddened to see that some of the old
MS Outlook problems were not solved.
When I use IMAP protocol I always get the following
error: "connection timed out" , and changing timeout
settings does not help.
It seems like this is only a problem with MS Outlook, as
it does not happen with neither Outlook Express nor with
other products.

can you help?

Part of the problem is that Outlook mistakenly reports connection
problems when, per the IMAP protocol, it is supposed to reestablish the
connection silently.

The IMAP server is free to disconnect idle clients at any time (mainly
due to server load), and the client is only supposed to report an error
if it cannot reestablish the connection when it's actually needed.

yes, but is there a solution to that???

Harass Microsoft into reading how IMAP works and developing a functional
IMAP interface. Beyond that, click "OK", and/or beg Outlook to
reconnect with the File --> Connect option.

In short, not really much you can do. Personally, I've been very happy
with Mozilla based IMAP clients (ThunderBird is my favorite at the
moment)

I have the same problem, but it's been only recently that it occured. I don't recall it coinciding with the installation of another program, but I never had this problem before a couple of weeks ago
