Implementing RBS retrospectively

Hi All

Unfortunately I am administering EPM that did not have RBS implemented.
I am keen to implement RBS to facilitate skill based planning and am
wondering if any one could advise if there would be any adverse
effects. Also any tips would be appreciated.

I also do not have a test environment but have addressed this.

Thanks in advance

The RBS field is used as a part of Project Server's security model to show
Project Server "who reports to whom" in the organization. Using RBS, you
can control the projects and resources to which each project manager has
access. I do not believe this will address your need, however.

Since you wish to do skill-based planning, I believe you should use a custom
enterprise Resource outline code for this purpose. You could create a custom
enterprise Resource outline code called Skills in the Enterprise Global
file. If you wish to select multiple values for your resources, you should
select enterprise Resource outline code 20-29 for this purpose. When you
define this new Skills outline code, you should select the "Use this code
for matching generic resources" option for the code, and then you should
also define the desired Generic resources with which to match human
resources. Your project managers can then do the skill matching in both the
Build Team from Enterprise dialog a

Just some thoughts. Perhaps the others have some ideas, too. Hope this
helps.

Nuala - The RBS is used by Resource Substitution Wizard and in the
Portfolio Modeler to refine the pool of resources Project Server will
look at.

So, in your case, you follow Dale's advice and establish a skill
Resource Outline code. Then, when trying to match a resource skill
requirement, you can select the level of your RBS to search from. If
you are a very matrixed organization, it might not be that useful, but
if you are a more functionally oriented organization, then it will
help.

Hope this helps.
