Implications of using split versus reschedule

I am wondering if anyone can explain to me the differences between splitting
a task and rescheduling it. From what I have read, split is for task
interruptions and reschedule is to change the time for work to start. When I
perform both operations in Project, they look exactly alike. Any additional
insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello GDCross,

Task split intervenes only when there is a difference of priority between
the 2 tasks in conflict (because they use the same resource)
You can set the task priority in the Task Information dialog (Advanced tab).
1000 is the highest priority.
In the Resource Leveling dialog, choose the Priority, Standard option for
Leveling Order.

Hope this helps,

Yes this does help and raises another question. When I split a task or
reschedule a task, I should level overallocated resources if needed. True?

GDCross,

You level overallocated resources if needed, and the level algorithm will
reschedule and/or split a task if necessary.
