Project Task Auto-Reschedule Question

Hello Everyone,

We are looking at upgrading to MS Project 2007 and I had a question
from a few of our PM's on a task question that I am hoping some of you
may be able to provide insight to.

Is it possible to have a task that must be completed on a particular
day, to be automatically rescheduled to that next designated day in
the event a predecessor task runs over?

In our case, change management must be entered on a Tuesday for any
production items, so if a task that must be completed before the
change management request is entered on a Tuesday, runs over and
causes the CM task to miss that Tuesday, can it reschedule itself to
the following Tuesday?

This is probably not so much a 2007 question as an overall question
and we are currently using Project 2003.

Let me know if additional information is needed.

I appreciate any insight that may be given.

Thanks,

Bruce

Hello Bruce,

This can actually be accomplished in Project 2003 with the use of a
"buffer" task and a task calendar. Create a small (one minute) task
that you place between the task you need to move to Tuesday and it's
predecessor. Then create a new calendar (Tools > Change Working
Time, New) which only has one minute of working time Tuesday morning
before the start of the regular working day. Assign the task
calendar to the one minute buffer task and the successor will always
be scheduled for Tuesday.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
