Just created a new pst.. and renemed the old one (650MB)
with the new name...
this was the error message when i tried to access..
"The set of folders could not be open. the server is not
available..."
let me add that I am accessing a pst created in a non
existing domain

Copy all .pst files from the CD to your hard drive and then remove the read
only attribute from their property pages.

Also, use File->Open to access the .pst files, not import.

I did that.
It says it is not a PST file. I confirmed the name and
attribute. Read only is off

Use scanpst.exe to check it for errors. If you copied the file to the CD
while Outlook was still running you could have damaged it beyond repair.

650MB is OK.
If scanpst.exe didn't fix it the following tool is pretty much your last
resort;
