Import actual work from Excel

J

Jacques D.

Hi,

I'd like people to report actual worked hours in Excel format so I can then
merge it into the MSP file. I know how to export the project tasks with
assignment rows to Excel. But how do I re-import it into the project? The
exported Excel file contains IDs for tasks and resources and the import
process does not seem to differentiate them; it interpretes a resource ID as
a task ID.

Thanks,

Jacques D.

Hi Jacques,

If you export/import assignment data, use the Assignment ID instead of the
Task ID or Resource ID. In the Export Wizard, you have to choose Assignment
data too.
Hope this helps,

Gérard,

Thanks for your answer.
I tried it and it works when only one resource is assigned to a task. When
there are several resources, only the hours from the last entry (resource) of
the task is kept, and assigned to the first resource assigned to the task
within MSP.

Do I need to export specific fields and/or specify a key other than task ID
(actually, selecting another key didn't work).

I tried exporting Resource ID, Resource Name, Task ID, Task Name, Actual
Work, and Scheduled work. What I want is to enter actual work within Excel
and upload it to update my MSP so resources do not need access to the actual
project plan.

Thanks,

Jacques.

Hi Gérard,

I just want to let you know that I found the solution. The update of work
data and import from Excel work. You only need to make sure you export
"Unique ID" in your map to Excel.

Refer to the other post titled "export/import to/from excel" on this group.

Regards,

Jacques.
