import contacts from excel

I performed an export of my existing contacts into excel, cleared the fields
(kept the header row) and entered a bunch of new contacts into the ss.

Now I'm trying to import that same file (with all the new, additional
contacts) back into outlook - I'm able to follow all the steps (File -->
Import from another program/file --> MS excel --> select file to import -->
select destination folder --> import contacts into folder: contacts -->
finish) yet even after showing the picture of files transferring there are no
new contacts in my contact folder.
