Import .dat to access 2007

The .dat file in question is a comma delimited text file. Renaming the file
to .txt is not an option.

I have tried changing the following registry with no success:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Access Connectivity
Engine\Engines\Text

I changed both the disabled extensions and extension registries to include
dat, but Access still does not recognize this file type when using the import
text file wizard. Any other suggestios? Thanks!
