Import Data Definition Language (DDL) files

Paul Reed

Do you know if any of the Visio versions support the import of DDL statements
(i.e., Create Table...) to produce and ER diagram? I know it will allow you
to point to a database and it will reverse engineer...but all I have is the
DDL statements.

At one time many moons ago I thought I did this with a version of Visio but
perhaps I am thinking of another tool.

Kind regards,

Paul

Visio Enterprise Architect will allow you to forward engineer. Please note
that you will need to install Visual Studio 2005 before it can be installed.
The engine for this version of Visio is based on 2003. You will want to
verify the particular editions of Visual Studio that includes Visio not all
do.

James,

Usually forward engineer means going from a drawing to some type of code...I
want to go from DDL to a drawing...technically reverse engineering I think. I
do have a coy of Visio Enterprise for Architects as well as VS 2005...I'll
give it a try....thanks.

You might check out third party products. I believe I saw something that
advertised drawing based upon ddl. I don't remember ever having seen Visio
read native ddl.

My fault, Al is correct Visio Enterprise Architect can create DDL, which is
used to define arbitrary data formats. You may want check with one of the
Visio Partners.
