I am attempting to import contacts into Outlook 2000 and I don't have the
original CD's any longer. When I attempted to import, a message appeared
that read, "Microsoft cannot start the Import/Export Engine." When I then
attempted to install it, it prompted me to load the disc I no longer have. I
followed instrux on Microsoft support, which directed me to the Custom
Maintenance Wizard. It then directed me to locate a file called "Data1.msi"
which is not on my computer. Is there a way to accomplish this task without
having the original discs? Please help???

If they are in a CD then don't import them. Use File | Open and copy the
Contacts over.
You might be able to obtain a replacement CD for other needs from Microsoft.

Sorry, my question was unclear. I don't have the installation CD's for
Outlook any longer. My contacts are not on a CD. I'm a trying to export
contacts from Palm Desktop Manager and import them into Outlook, but I get a
message that my Import/Export engine is not installed. If I no longer have
the installation CD's for Outlook, is there a way for me to install this
engine via another method?

Is there a way for me to install without paying any money to buy a microsoft
product?

No. You must have the install kit to install the importers and exporters.
