I use Excel's "Import External Data" function to import
data from shared files (Excel) on our intranet. The cell
values in Column B in one source file are always five
characters long, the first character being either a
number or a letter, and the remaining four characters
always numbers (e.g., 71083, A2740).
When I use the Import External Data function to import
data from the file described above, I import the entire
worksheet in the same format into the destination file.
Only cell values from from Column B that begin with a
number (e.g., 71083) import, whereas those that begin
with a letter (e.g., A2740) do not, leaving me with
numerous empty cells that should contain data.
Other columns that contain alpha only, numeric only, and
non-contiguous alpha-numeric data (e.g., "123 Main
Street") import just fine.
Any suggestions?
