Import from pre-Project Server Project Tracking Workspace?

Before we had Project Server, we were using the Project Tracking Workspace to
manage our projects in SharePoint. Now we have Project Server on a separate
farm from our Intranet SharePoint site and we'd like to migrate our projects
out of the SharePoint-only workspace into project server. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Heather

That'll be quite tough to do. You might have a couple of options - all of
which you'd want to try in a demo environment first.

1) Deattach the content db with the workspaces and reattach it in your new
farm. See if you then have the option to activate PWA features in that site
collection and on the sites. I haven't done this, so would advise you to
seek the advice of a SPT consultant before going too far. In theory that
should work I would think - although the URLs would probably end up being a
bit of a mess. There may be a fair bit of cleanup involved.

2) Take the content from the workspaces, and slap it back into "official"
project workspaces. In that case, you're just moving content and not sites.
There're a number of third party tools that will support relocating content
between sites, and some of those tools are pretty easy to use.

That's all I can think of off hand.

I have used the STSADM backup and restore commands to move a project
workspace artifacts form a old sharepoint workspace to a new one. It has
options to overwrite or merge artifacts.

Hope this helps.
