import select data from another workbook

I have 2 worksheets which both have client information for the same clients
but one sheet has contact info and the other has client history. I cannot cut
and paste as one sheet has many more clients in it and I only want to import
data for the clients in the first sheet. I want to know if I can import the
data for only the clients in the first sheet. I tried to import using ms
query but I get an error that there are no tables in the worksheet i'm trying
to import from. Any help would be much appreciated.
