Importing ACT ver6 to BCM v2 - is this the process?

Export the ACT DB. Q - can't I just convert the existing live ACT DB in/from
BCM without exporting first? I have done this twice now, using ACT wizard to
export an ACT db to an ACT db (same size, looks same to me) and also using
BCM to import an ACT db without exporting it first. I know this might sound
stoopid, but I've seen it written that you have to export first, and I'm not
sure that's absolutely necessary.

Either way, when I open the BCM, (I'm logged in as me, not the ACT user for
whom I'm doing this migration) I get the all the ACT email but in a text
field, Subject line, chopped off at 255 chars. Q - is this because I need to
port over the ACT user's PST file? I'm starting to realize that the ACT
email itself when configured to use Outlook, is stored 1) elsewhere and 2) in
a PST file. So I need to configure her Outlook 2003 with BCM to point to
that file, too. But even after I do this, will the email be visible from the
BCM and not just from Outlook|Contacts?

The Outlook 2003 (without BCM) for Contacts is just a flat file, not a DB,
if you map fields from ACT to Outlook and import it as a .csv to Outlook. I
had thought to use Outlook without BCM for her Contacts until I get the new
BCM database built on BCMV3, but that's not a good transition tool. I now
think BCMV2 is a better choice as it is more like ACT than Contacts is.

Any help anyone who exported from ACT to BCM can give me is v. much
appreciated. I just finished saving off the BCMV3, and will go play with
that now.

I spent a lot of time on this yesterday and discovered that yes, ACT uses the
Outlook PST file, so when I configure my user for Outlook 2003 with BCM, all
her email sent via ACT previously will be available to her.

Still believe I can just convert the ACT DB, and not Export from ACT, then
Convert in the BCM. The exported DB seems to be exactly the same as the live
version.

And the problem of the email text appearing only as the first 255 chars in
the subject line was a setting my user chose, from ACT, and is by design.

I convert the ACT DB (and retire ACT) tonight, install and configure new PC
with Outlook 2003 and BCMV2 tomorrow, fingers crossed.
