Importing back up copies of email

When I import back-up copies of my email to a new computer, dozens of the old messages show today's date, not the original date they were sent or received. Not all old messages have the dates messed up. This happens when exporting and then later importing backed-up email as .rge or MBOX format. How can I correct this?
Thanks

Sort by "Sent" not "Received."

Did you try it? The Received date is when Entourage saw the message, not
when your mail server saw it. So when you import a message, it gets a new
Received date, but the Sent date should not change.

That doesn't work as both the sent and receive dates are the same. I can't
see any reason why the changed dates apply to several dozen old messages
but not hundreds of others.

I suppose it's possible that those messages have malformed or illegal
Date fields and Entourage doesn't know what to do with them.

Honest, they're both changed to the date and time I did the export to make a back up copy of my email.
