Importing categorized contacts into a DL

E

Ed

My Outlook 2003 contacts number well over 2000. I use categories instead of
DLs for mailings and other tasks.

I recently was given a BlackBerry Storm at work which connects to Outlook
via an Exchange Server.

My problem is that i'm on the road alot and need to send emails to lists of
contacts. The Storm, or Exchange Server, won't let me access by category for
mailings so I'm trying to figure out a workaround. The only thing I can think
of is creating DLs that I'd populate with the most frequently used
categories.

I'm trying to figure out some way of importing categorized address cards
into a new DL without clicking one by one through 2,000 contacts. As I
understand it, the BlackBerry will see the distribution list.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ed

You can't make a DL using categories - you need to add the members of the
categories to the DL. Since everyone is in your contacts and will resolves,
create a by category view that has only the full name field (or name and
email address, if you want). Copy the category and paste into the member
field.

See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/copy_data.htm for the basics.

FWIW, my storm didn't see my contact DL (my test DL is called Me and the BB
sent the test message to meeting room 2) - it does work on Exchange DL (in
GAL) when I type the full name. The BB won't resolve it so you can't check
names and its not in the contacts list on the BB to select.

Thanks for the help.

I copied a test list over to a DL and populated it with no problem.

However, as you mention my BB doesn't see the DL I created called Adoptions.
This is off of the Exchange server.

type adoptions in the To field on the message on the BB and it will resolve
correctly when you send. If you want to verify, make a DL with some
addresses you own (@ gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc) and test it.
