importing .dat files

am having difficulty importing .dat file

it is opeing in a table file as a continuous row of data instead of creating
columns, even though it is delimited with *'s.

any suggestions?

I'm surprised you're able to import them as all: the .dat extension isn't
one of the ones that's allowed for import by default (or did you change the
registry to allow it?)

Where did the file come from? Access insists on both a carriage return and
line feed as line delimiters: some products use only a line feed. Try
importing it into Excel, which is less rigid than Access.
