How do I import a Paradox data base into an Access data base an is it more
stable? Will there be any major problems I'll have to deal with? I'm perty
much a new user to Access and is there a web site with free info on doing
this.
thanks for any help I recieve.

I believe you can link the Paradox table as dBase IV- (I think - I did it
once but cannot recall right now) but it gets complicated when you have to
supply it with the correct IDX file as well.

I think the simplest way would be...
If you have Paradox, I would just export from there to a delimited TXT or
CSV file.
Then import that file into Access.

Unless they have removed the file filter (those have changed somewhat over
different versions of Access) you ought to be able to in the main menu, File
| Get External Data, then follow the prompts to import the Paradox table.

I'm not familiar with recent versions of Paradox -- I gave up on them
"getting Windows right" at PDOX/WIN version 4.5. I was an enthusiastic end
user of PDOX/DOS, however. So I can't address "more" or "less" stable.
However the recent versions of Access have indeed been stable.

As long as you don't expect Access to BE Paradox, or to work like Paradox,
there shouldn't be any major problems. One big difference: There is no
"Answer Table" in Access.

There is good online training material at http://office.microsoft.com that
should more than get you started. The FAQ site, http://www.mvps.org/access
is an excellent resource, and has links to many more. There are links, too,
at http://ntaccess.tripod.com, and many posters to these newsgroups have
websites, to which they have referred in the body of their posts, or in
their sig lines.

Welcome to the Great Access Unwashed (that's all most of us claim, we who
ask and answer questions here).

I love your answer! I'm still using PDOX/DOS but I fear my old, old computer
will die soon and I'll be stuck. Paradox for Windows doesn't do what I want
so I'm learning Access now. My entire business is based on me learning to do
this right!
