Importing excel files

I'm new to access 2000, when importing excel 2000 files
into access I get a message box saying "There is no object
in this control" I then press o/k and the import wizard
appears but blanks out.
any ideas,

Check the file format - it may be looking for an Access
file, change it to an excel format.
