Importing info from email

If I were to set up my inventory in an access database would it be able to
reduce my stock if I receive my orders by email?

S

Steve

Yes! You would need to insure in someway that all emails meet a strict,
consistent format so Access could read them and that all emails have the
same specific subject so Access could look through your emails and pickout
the orders.

Further ----

I have done this for several customers. The customers were given an Excel
worksheet formatted as an order form. The customer filled out the order form
and attached it to an email. The Excel attachment was saved when received
and Access extracted the order data from the file.

Right now my inventory is set up in an excel file. All of my orders are
received by email (we use Outlook to receive emails). If I were to move my
inventory into an Access database, would it be able to reduce the number of
items I have in stock from an email we receive. Also, is there an easy to
way to transfer the excel file into the access file?

S

Steve

Access could automatocally do New Inventory = Old Inventory - Number Ordered
for each item ordered. And by the way could automatically do New Inventory =
Old Inventory + Numbered Purchased.

Depending on the structure of the Excel file, Access can retrieve data from
an Excel file by directing linking to the file and treating the file like a
table, importing the data to an Access table with the Transferspreadsheet
method or using VBA.

"Client" would imply repeat business!

The only person who responded with anything helpful was the person you are
complaining about.

Sorry if we appear harsh, but steve is notorious for attempting to solicit
business even those he has been reminded thousands of times that these
newsgroups were set up for free peer to peer support without having to put
up with hucksters. So we frequently have to remind steve when he crosses the
line or is headed that way.

You are nothing but a jerk and an embarassment to the principles of MVP.
Roberta is one-hundred percent correct about your worthless responses! You
spent time making your worthless responses three times and offered not one
iota of help to Roberta. You should be embarassed to put MVP after your name
and other MVPs should be outraged how you are making a mockery of the
principles of MVP.

I am in complete support of John Marshall's activities when it comes
to you soliciting work in these newsgroup. John is a fine example of
the principles of being an MVP.

I have to say, i did not read that as soliciting. I read that as a useful
example of how something has worked in the past.

I am almost sorry I asked my question. I was not interested in starting a
pissing match for a bunch of little boys on the internet. I just wanted an
answer to my QUESTION.

Roberta posted this about John Marshall "The only person who responded with
anything helpful was the person you are complaining about." She was
referring to me! John Marshall responded three times in this thread and did
not offer one iota of help to Roberta. Is this what you consider a fine
example of the principles of being an MVP?

And how about Kristie's response in this thread "I have to say, i did not
read that as soliciting. I read that as a useful example of how something
has worked in the past."

You have to understand steve and his behaviour. At face value, it may not
appear to be soliciting, but if you know steve's past behaviour, you will
recognise that he is just waiting for someone to take him up on his
statement and then he will claim that he did not solicit, but the user
approached him.

Steve has been warned many times in the past and rather than have any of the
Access MVPs bother with steve, I am doing the reminding. This will allow the
regulars to block my posts and steve posts so they do not have to see this
dialog.

Try asking a specific question. Your question was way too vague, it was
akin to "how do I design a database?". Oh, and try not insulting those who
can most definitely help when you do ask something meaningful.
