importing ldf and mdf

S

SRB

We used PC mover to move all the files from one laptop to another. The new
laptop has Outlook 2003 with BCM. It also has the same computer name as the
old machine. What we are trying to do is import the old machine's ldf and
mdf into the new machines's BCM. There is no option under import and export
to bring in a BCM. Not sure how to do this. We only have two options create
a new database or select a database. The second option doesn't see the files
from the old machine (I would assume this is due to the fact that the new
laptop has the same name). Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

I'm running a similar problem, if you found a solution, please let me know.

I'm moving all my data from desktop to laptop in preparation for a very long
trip. I'll be giving up the desktop and would prefer not to lose the database
- BCM was created on the Desktop and has been networked for a good long time.
I do have the added complication that I believe the original was created
under a profile that used my initials and not my current laptop id.

Thanks,

J-M

You best bet to move data from one BCM to another is to export on the
first (as BCM files) and import on the second.

MDF are sql server database files. BCM cannot import those files. You
can however attach them to sql server and then select the database
from BCM.

I have the similar problem. My further question is now: How can I attach the
file to the sql server? I couldn`find a management tool for the server. The
complete installation of the BCM is on a local machine.

I would be glad if you can tell me what to do for attaching this mdf-file to
the sql server. thanks in advance

and one more information: It is Outlook 2007 with BCM. (I think normally it
should find the database on its own?). the database-file is laying in the
BCM-Folder.

You can attach database to SQL Server directly from SQL Server
Comparison Tool (SCT) - a program which can be downloaded from

http://www.sql-server-tool.com

In order to add your SQL Server to the list of servers available for
SCT please click menu item Tools -> Add Server (if you don't have at
least one server added to SCT, the program will display "Add Server"
dialog automatically). As a server name please enter \SQLEXPRESS (if
you use SQL Express; otherwise enter correct SQL Server instace name).

If SCT displays error message, please exit the application, restart it
and check if the server was added to the list; if it was, please try
to connect to it - the chances are that the connection will be
established properly.

Once you are connected to the server, please click menu item Tools ->
Attach Database, specify database name and the location of files, and
click button "Attach". SCT should attach the database and display
confirmation message.
