Importing messages to Outlook Exp.

Couldn't install XP over Win98se. Compacted Outlook Exp.
messages (approx. 1000) and copied to CD. All folders
have .dbx extension. Prior to formatting I imported them
back into Outlook Exp. 6.0 on the 98 desktop for a test
and they all went with no problem. Now I have XP
installed and cannot import them. Does anyone know why?
or how I can get them back? The import function doesn't
even see the files.
