transfer outlook pst office 2000 to 2010

My laptop went belly up recently but I wasn't too worried because i have everything backed up. However, I was previously using Office 2000 with Windows XP. I have all the outlook pst files.

However, when I try to load/import these files to outlook 2010 nothing happens. Not even an error message.

I've tried File/Open/open outlook data file
I've tried simply dragging the file to outlook

Any ideas?
