importing .pst files from MS Outlook

Email Client: pop

I am trying to import MS Outlook archive files (.pst) into MS Entourage. They are apparently not compatible but both MS files? The .pst file was created on windows pc, in outlook. I have downloaded outlook for mac 2001, but apparently this version is no longer supported on my mac? I have also tried the .pst converter but this gets stuck at the 'choose file' as it does not seem to recognise a .pst file .......

I really don't understand why 2 Microsoft programs cannot read a Microsoft created file!

There are several options at the URL I gave. You didn't say which you
tried and what happened when you tried.

well i tried the url you suggested and got the following message :

Not Found

The requested URL /import_export/pst.htm was not found on this server.

aside from this, i have searched all the forums and troubleshooting tips for importing .pst files and tried all that were suggested, there is only one which I haven't and that is because I am not able, concerning using some third party software on the original windows pc as I no longer have access to the original windows pc.

It seems odd to me that one microsoft application cannot read the archive file of another given that both applications use the same file type.

so I have read all the comments and as mentioned, I cannot do anything to change the format of my .pst file as I no longer have the windows based pc or outlook. Outlook for mac is free ( i found a free download yesterday) but is it does not work (error message ; no longer supported)I have tried the import.pst tool and it does not recognise my .pst file regardless of if it is saved on my mac or an external harddrive, i cannot use the referred to littlemachines product as that uses a windows pc and I dont have one.

so, again, thanks for the suggestions on there but they don't work! i have only one mac and am not in a position to downgrade then upgrade and mess around with operating systems etc etc.

I have a windows saved .pst archive file from MS outlook 2003. I want to import the data (addresses, mails and attachments) into my mac mail entourage. The are 2 MS created applications both of which use .pst files for archiving, why are they not compatible?

Outlook for Mac was created a long time ago (the latest version dates back
to 2001, if I'm not mistaken), and the PST file format has evolved ever
since. Furthermore, Outlook for Mac only runs in pre-Mac OS X versions of
the Mac operating system, so you'll have to use an older Mac running Mac OS
9 or the Classic environment, and you need to be connected to an Exchange
environment. The PST importer tool only works for PST files created with
Outlook for Mac; PST files created with Outlook are not supported.

Entourage does not use PST, and in fact, no application other than Outlook
uses it. I'm afraid you can't use your PST file unless you manage to find a
PC running Outlook; you can then use Little Machines' O2M application to
export your archive into file formats that can be read by Entourage.

Make sure to leave your feedback with Microsoft (click on Help>Send Feedback
about Entourage); the more users complain about the lack of PST import, the
more likely it is that they are going to listen.

If you don't have access to a Windows computer to change the format of your
..pst files, you could try running a virtual Windows machine or Windows
emulation on your Mac. See http://www.macwindows.com/emulator.html for more
information. Note that in addition to an emulator, you'll also need a copy
of Outlook for Windows and (unless you're using CrossOver 7) a copy of
Windows itself.

I have an Outlook 2001 app with a 340mb "personal folders.pst" file. I want to be able to see the contents in some app (e.g., Entourage 2004, g-mail, MacMail) in OS 10.4.11 (current) on G4 PB, or OS 10.5 (next OS, which doesn't support Classic and Outlook 2001). I've tried the MS "PST Import Tool" - to import into Entourage 2004 - but it says the file is not a PST file! I dragged to my XP Pro desktop (Virtual PC 7.0.3) and used Scanpst.exe to "repair" and obtained a "recovered" Personal Folders.pst file which I tried to import into Outlook (part of XP Pro). It would not import into the newly created Personal Folders. I no longer have access to an exchange server. The Entourage 2004 PST import tool indicated that the "recovered" (by Scanpst.exe) file was not a PST file. Is there not some relatively easy way to find a PST import tool that works or upload the Outlook 2001 personal folders.pst file to an IMAP-configured g-mail account. By the way, I can view all of the many folders, sub-folders and messages in my personal folders.pst file using Outlook 2001 (for Mac).
Thank you for any advice or guidance members may provide.
