importing pst files

i am having problem on how-to import back-up .pst restore back to outlook 2003.
there is an error "file not compatible with this version of the personal
folder info service."

please help.

Thank you so much for your reply.
The Version i installed is office 2003.

Below is the way i backed up the file:
1. File
2. Import / Export
3. Export to a file
4. Personal Folder File (.pst)
5. Selected the folder to export from including subfolders
6. Save exported file as E:\ Backup

This prompted an error, therefore, the help i asked told me to first save
the file to the desktop then copy and past it to the external drive.

Now, following the instruction on how to import back up, i encounter the
problem.

Importing is never a good way to transfer Outlook data. Just open the file.
If you can't, then tell us how you created and transported this file. Look
more carefully at your versions. Outlook 2003 would not produce such an
error message.

You don't import the backup. When dealing with .PST files, Import and
Export are not to be used. You copy the backup from your external drive to a
folder on your hard drive where it won't overwrite any files, make sure it
isn't set read only, then you OPEN the file with Outlook using
'File|Open|Outlook Data File'. From there, you have access to all the
contents, email messages, contacts, tasks, calendar, everything.

The correct way to backup your .PST file to move it, save it, or anything
else is to make a COPY of the .PST file when you have Outlook closed. As
Russ says, the Import/Export function for .PST files is broken and causes
file and profile corruption.
