I am trying to import a text file and when I import the data, it automatically places spaces between the rows. How do I get rid of those spaces, or stop them from being entered in the first place?

One way:

Edit your text file to remove duplicate end of record (CR) characters.

Easier:

Import, then select the first column. Choose Edit/Go To/Blanks. Choose
Edit/Delete (or CTRL-k), selecting the "Entire row" radio button, then
click OK.
