Importing webs and publishing.

Hi everyone,

I have been publishing since 1998 and recently my mother board gave up the
ghost and took the chip and my websites (I had to wipe the hard drive and
start again, with the new motherboard).

I now back it up!

I managed to download my web from it's server using import, but on trying to
publish it back, (no navigation structure was present).

It wanted to publish all the pages, this meant saying no, a lot of times, to
files I didn't want overwritten.

Their is apparently a programme that gives you the option to choose which
files to publish. Does it work?

Also the navigation structure failed to appear on the imported web on my
computer.

So any ideas?

Best wishes,

daytripper

The import function only imports what is seen by a browser, so shared
borders, include files, navigation structure, themes, asp pages, databases,
etc. are not imported.

Howdy.

The File, Import feature often has this effect, especially
in versions earlier than FP2003. The fix is to open your
remote Web in FrontPage, and then publish it back to your
local disk or Web server.

FP2003 usually does this automatically. That is, if you
try to import a site that you could reverse-publish,
FP2003 will detect that and switch to reverse-publish mode.

Best way to not publish a file is to select them in folder view, right-click and mark "do not publish". Same holds true if you only need to publish 1 page.

Ctrl-click and select the files you want to publish, right-click and select
"Publish Selected Files".
