Impossible to edit a remote website

D

dan

Some time ago I used FrontPage 2003 to create and maintain a website on a
remote server.
Now, I want to modify that website.
I get alternatively two situations:
1. A message saying that there is no website with that URL. However IE
finds the site (URL copied and pasted).
2. FP asks a few questions and then displays two panes: Local website
(empty, which is expected) and Remote website, also empty.

What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks for your help,
Dan

Did you "open" and or refresh the remote??

Try steps 1-4 of this procedure:

FrontPage Locks Up

Many thanks. I am impressed by the clarity of your instructions.
Unfortunately it didn't help in this case.

Here a few more details:
I have three websites:
A1 and A2 are on two Win2003 remote servers. I am the admin of those
servers. A2 is the copy of A1.
When I try to open them with FP2003 from my desktop they both react in the
same way: I get the two empty panes.
Until a few days ago A1 was hosted on a Win2000 server, and it is there that
I was able to maintain it from my desktop. Could IIS 6 be the culprit?

A third website B is hosted by an ISP. I have no problems with that one: I
can open the remote website on my desktop. Thus FP seems not be the
culprit.

I have installed FP on one of the (brand new) remote servers. I can open
the website on that same server but some of the pages are "checked out".
How can I "uncheck" them?

And finally: When I try to open the site on the other server I get the same
situation as on my desktop: the two empty panes Local Website and Remote
Website.

Thank you,
Dan

Did you "open" and or refresh the remote??
That's the problem, I cannot open it.
I gave additional details in another reply.
Many thanks,

Explain "open from your desktop"
Open FP
Then use File Open Web/Site and enter the server URL
Or since you can browse to it in IE, try File Edit in FP from IE

Then use File Open Web/Site and enter the server URL
This ends by displaying the two empty panes

Or since you can browse to it in IE, try File Edit in FP from IE
Reply: "The specified file or website does not exist" (although it is
displayed in IE)
Many thanks,

FP is remembering your last view
And when you turn on View Folder List or switch from Remote Web Site View to Web Folder View what do you see?

Dan,

The issue is that Windows 2003 Server, is lockdown, where as Windows 2000 Server is not, so some
features and function we are use to, no longer work until enabled. The problem is knowing what the
features are that need to be enabled.

And when you turn on View Folder List
Two empty folders: _private and images
or switch from Remote Web Site View to Web Folder View what do you see?
I don't see that option.

The link "View your Remote Website" works fine.

Thanks,
Dan
