Dear Mactopia,

Following is a defect I recently submitted against IMSUM and IMPRODUCT in Excel, via Help->Send Feedback. I also give a simple workaround.

Dear Microsoft,

Please submit the following defect against Excel 2004 for Mac Version 11.5.1 (080729). When IMSUM is given a list of operands, the 7th and 8th operands are included twice in the sum, while the 28th and 29th operands are included not at all. A simple example would be "=IMSUM(0,0,0,0,0,0,2,2)". Normally, 2+2=4, but in this case both 2's are counted twice, giving the answer 2+2=8. Same defect observed for IMPRODUCT. It is not known how many other functions handle operand lists in the same way. Simple workaround is to always populate the affected operand positions with 0's for IMSUM, and 1's for IMPRODUCT.

Same defects observed in Excel X for Mac Service Release 1. Defect has not been observed in PC Windows versions of Excel, and appears to be fixed in Office Mac 2008.

Regards,

williamm

What defect? What are your operands and what is the result you are getting,
and what do you think the result should be?
