IN MS Photo Editor I get: "Image is too large (too many bytes)"

When opening a JPG file that is about 2.8mb in Photo Editor I get the error
that the "Image is too large and has too many bytes," and it will NOT open.
Yet the same image in "NEF" (Nikon Elec. Image) or raw format at 20mb will
open fine in Photo Editor. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix
or adjust?

I also use Adobe Photo Shop and they open fine there as well.
Running: Dell Dim 4600, 2.66GHz, Windows XP Home,ver 2002, SP 2, 2GB RAM,
Page Space has already been increased substantially.

Hi Barney,

You can get this if the size and the resolution and the color count max out the 32mb limit. Keep in mind that the size of JPEG file
when opened is usually larger than its disk size.
